Best Brains: Batteries

Aug 20, 2008 17:49

I want opinions on batteries. I am sick and tired of recharging my batteries every 30 pictures or so. I know there are at least 2 pro photographers on my list, and a number of experienced amateurs. What kind of batteries are best? All it really requires is "AA".

batteries, best brains

I run the Sony brand NI-MH 2500mAh batteries in my Canon IS5, and easily take a couple of hundred pictures, using lots of zoom. grillghod uses the Canon IS3 and it takes the same batteries.

I recharge them with an Energizer brand 15 minute charger, which works as advertised. grillghod and I each have a set and a backup set in our camera bags, and have not ever managed to run down both sets- and we are picture takin' fools.

For disposable batteries, lithium are the absolute best and last longer than even the best rechargeables. For rechargeables, Energizer are the absolute best that I've found, and I have tried several different brands because XS Cargo always has cheap battery chargers. Energizer is not cheap, and is not available at XS Cargo as far as I know, but they are the best battery and charger combination that I have found.

My cameras don't run off AA's, but my flashes do. I used to use disposables because I couldn't find a rechargeable brand I liked until a couple months ago.

I bought on a whim, a pack of Energizer NiMH 2500mAh which came with a charger for home and the car (cost me about $60). The batteries recharge in 15 minutes. I then bought 4 MORE packs of batteries (and plan on buying more). My flashes are HUGE battery hogs but these batteries are AMAZING! When buying rechargeable batteries, the higher the mAh rating the better. I believe I've seen upwards of 2900 before, but I wouldn't go lower than 2500 if you can. If you can afford to buy a pack or two of batteries and keep them charged and on you, it will make your life a lot easier. And if you're in a place to recharge, these only take 15 minutes which is peanuts compared to some!

how long have you had 'em? rechargeables don't last forever. we usually get about two years out of them, but we use our camera a LOT. i'd say they're used and recharged a few times a week. i think ours are energizer too.

sorry i'm not much help!
