Star Trek Into Darkness trailer

I'm not a Trekker, but what they're doing with these new Star Trek movies offends me. They're just generic space movies with some familiar-ish characters thrown into the mix. This new trailer has elements from Star Wars, Battlestar Galactica, Battleship(!), and even Tron. I see nothing that looks like Star Trek. I think I hate J. J. Abrams. Like I ( Read more... )

I've never seen an episode of Star Trek, but from everything I've gathered through sheer osmosis, that trailer is nothing like how I imagine Star Trek to be. But this is all part of the great homogenization that is happening to popular media. It's all going to be blended into the same bland, brandless pastiche of a genre. It definitely doesn't help that one man is at the helm of the two most prominent science-fiction franchises.

As for your other post, I lost track of Misfits after Season 2 (Did they really get rid of Nathan?), Dexter after Season 4 (I think I'm just avoiding Julia Stiles), but Sherlock is probably the next show I'm going to start watching.

That's a good way of putting it. I'm going to use it in future conversations!

Indeed. What were they thinking? It's not like his other stuff was so great, either. What a huge disappointment Lost turned out to be.

Yup. So sad. Let's see, S1 was brilliant, S2 not so much, S3 was almost bad, S4 was an improvement. So hopefully S5 will be good.

"Dexter after Season 4 (I think I'm just avoiding Julia Stiles),"
LOL! I feel like pretty much all the seasons of Dexter are exactly the same regardless of who's in them. Though I was not a fan of Dexter's wife, Rita. She was irritating.

Awesome!

Yay, I made sense!

Lost was the hugest disappointment! As I was watching the series, my feeling of dread for the characters was slowly replaced by a feeling of dread for the show. By the end, I'm pretty sure 'Lost' was referring to the writers. Ugh.

Maybe it was just because it was fun to listen to her talk, but Kelly was my favorite. I really disliked Barry and didn't think much of his whole time-traveling hero thing. But my favorite small detail about the show was how each character wore their orange jumpsuit differently.

Oh, then Season 4 was perfect for you. My brother was talking to me about the show and he mentioned that one of the seasons dispensed with the major, season-long, serial killer villain routine.

Oh, I don't really care what happens on Dexter, I just watch it out of habit. Though I am looking forward to how incestous-creepy the Dexter-Deb romance storyline is going to be! XD
