A/N: THIS IS NOT BETA’D yet. Sorry! it will be when it is posted to satd though. This was written for Mad,
xxrydenislovexx, for our one year frieniversary! (which i don’t know the exact date of, lol) But since i wrote it randomly, i decided it had to be for her, since it is sort of in the same universe as the one i wrote for Cassie,
Fuck Me. I Love You. okay so basically certain parts might make more sense if you read that one first, lol. :D

Brendon curled up in his bunk and cried, staring down at the picture in his hands. He hadn't cried like this in what seemed like years, but his heart ached. The picture he held had been taken a few years back in there practice space. It was bent around the edges and it was beginning to lose color. It was fading, from being folded up and stuck in Brendon's wallet for so long.
He was afraid that everything he had worked so hard to have was fading, just like that.
Since the split, he had been a little on edge. He knew that they needed this, but he had never felt so alone. So separated from them.
It was Spencer's birthday and Brendon felt selfish for being holed away in his bunk. He knew it was selfish, even though he had made Spencer breakfast. He needed to be out there celebrating, but it didn't feel right. Not without them.
He wanted it to be like old times. The memories seemed so far away.
He choked on a sob, realizing that this was the start of a new memory. Just he and Spencer. But he didn't want it; because it might replace the times he had had with everyone together. It hadn't been long and he already missed Ryan and Jon's presence.
During practice, he would start to point out how he messed up a lyric or a note, to Ryan, before realizing he wasn't there. And sometimes he would start to make a joke about Spencer or want to talk about video games, to Jon, but he wasn't there either.
Spencer had noticed the change in Brendon, when no one else did. But he never mentioned it. Brendon needed to figure this out on his own.
Spencer walked onto the bus and came back to Brendon's bunk. He slid the curtains open, and his heart ached. Brendon was curled up, fingers clutched into the sheets and holding onto a stuffed animal, of all things. One that Spencer noticed was the one that Ryan and Jon had picked up for him one day, way back, when they had gone out for a quick lunch before a show and Brendon had been to adorable to wake.
Spencer nudges him. Brendon feels ashamed and embarrassed, but turns over nonetheless, hiding behind the animal.
"Hey, come on out, Brenny." Brendon looks up at him moving the animal down to hug to his chest. "There is someone here to see us." And Brendon maybe thinks that if it is another interviewer here to ask about the split, he might just kill them.
Spencer takes the animal from Brendon's death grip and guides him from the bunk, despite Brendon's whining and whispered protests.
Brendon decides to relent and then he hopes that it isn’t a photographer either, realizing he looks like complete shit.
They step from the bus and are enveloped in two pairs of strong arms. Spencer chuckles and looks down to Brendon, who is ducked into everyone, squeezing his eyes shut.
After a few seconds, he peeks one eye open, and he brightens up instantly. Ryan and Jon are smiling at him. Ryan and Jon are here. Fresh tears begin to roll down his cheeks and he moves forward to hug them again.
He feels stupid now and he says this, trying to cover up the big scene he has made. Ryan pulls away from him and wipes his cheeks with the pads of his thumbs. "Hey now, shhh." He comforts and coaxes Brendon to relax. "Com' ere, little boy." Brendon presses his face into Ryan's chest. "I just..." His voice is scratchy and strange to his own ears, from crying, "I just miss you guys so much."
Jon comes behind the boy sandwiching him by putting his arms around his waist, "We're here, Bren. We're here now. No need to cry anymore." Brendon blushes, and tries to explain the feeling that has been threatening to tear him apart, "I thought... I was afraid that you had forgotten me and that I would forget you and how we were."
"Aww baby," Ryan coos, "You should know that that isn't true." Ryan takes his chin in his hands, looking him in the eyes, "We love you and Spencer too." He glances at Spencer and they smile at each other. "And just because we aren't in the same band anymore doesn't mean we won't remember how it was. Those were some of the best years of my life, and I'm sure Jon would agree.” Jon nods, "yeah Brendon, we totally love you both and we would never forget any of the times that we've had together."
Brendon smiles softly and then glances at all of them before apologizing for hogging all of the attention on Spencer's birthday. They all laugh, "It's okay Brendon. None of us can be happy without you." Brendon grins and the tears come again. Stupid tears, Brendon thinks. But when they pull him back into a group hug, he thinks that maybe it was okay to cry.
"I love you guys too." He mumbles.
~~~
"Happy Birthday to Spencer! Happy Birthday to you!" The boys finish up the song and throw little pieces of confetti everywhere. "Make a wish!" Brendon yells.
He is bouncing and Ryan is smiling from across the small table and Jon is ruffling his hair and repeating Brendon.
Spencer smiles at them all.
He decides that this is all he really wanted for his birthday, all of his friends together. He is happy, because they are happy.
He knows that they will always be best friends, but this was a nice surprise. Ryan and Jon showing up, despite their busy schedule.
And he likes to think that they can overcome this. Overlook the press and the negativity, and just be like they have always been. Maybe not together as a band anymore, but together as a family, as they always have been, since that first day, and how they will always be.
He blows out the candles.
Forever and always.
~~~
They are sitting around on the bus and Ryan comes back from the bathroom with a stuffed animal in his arms. He smirks in Brendon's direction, “my little boy, what is this?" and Spencer chuckles.
Brendon turns all shades of red, ducking his head, and remembering that he had left it in plain sight. "I...just don't ask, please." Jon giggles and tells him that he is happy that Brendon had put his present to good use.
Brendon groans putting his head in his hands, and decides he will never live this down.
Ryan saunters over and sits it down in his lap, leaning down, and pulling his hands away, to look into Brendon's eyes. Brendon looks at him, eyebrows raised in surprise, when the older boy leans in and kisses his nose, then his mouth, feather light.
Ryan smiles and it reaches his eyes.
"How did you think we could ever forget you? You, Brendon Urie, are the highlight of my life."
Brendon believes that everything will be just fine, because these are new memories and they are just additions to the old ones, just more of the little moments in his life that fill him up and make him whole.
This is his family. These are the people will never forget. The ones that he would give his life for. The ones he will be with until the day he dies.
He loves them with all of his being.
This is his family.
Forever and Always.
