Well, I was considering trying to read the Captain Alatriste novels in the original Spanish; I seem to be working on Spain quite a lot and it seemed like a good way to improve my reading and get my daft swashbuckling quota in... but I haven't got round to it yet. I'm not sure whether I've really got the motivation for it.
I think something thematic would be good too, though not too keen on some of Gladstone's more contemporary choices (speeches of Huskisson, anyone?). The rest looks pretty good though.
What I want to read: Herodotus Ovid's Metamorphoses Byron's Don Juan Count of Monte Cristo Don Quixote rest of Dickens, possible exceptions Hard Times/Old Curiosity Shop Some sort of essays - Bacon, rest of Hazlitt, Montaigne (erk) Anatomy of Melancholy Some thumping big history books
