I kind of have a hate-hate relationship with tumblr going. It lures me in with pretty things and then whaps me over the head with the stupid/scary/wrong. Tumblr is basically an anglerfish

Yeah Tumblr is ... odd. It kind of reminds me of Myspace back in the day because it is just so cluttered @.@ (Side note: that's why I don't think it will last as a platform. Not very scaleable and way too much 'noise'). A lot of meta seems to get lost there - or at the very least, it doesn't end up being interactive meta, because everyone is individually reblogging things and nothing ends up coherent after a while =/
I have one mainly for fandom news and such that falls through the cracks on Twitter/FB/LJ, but I don't use it a whole ton. It's really hard to have conversations with people on there, and 99% of the fun of fandom for me is having other people to share it with, and discuss it with. That's why I stick to LJ and even, to a much lesser extent FB, than Twitter or Tumblr.
Yeah, it seems like most of the interaction is liking a post or rebloging it. Actual dialog? Not so much. And don't even get me started on posting fic on tumblr. The only place less suited for posting fic would possibly be a collection of matchbook covers.
The format is bad enough in the best cases, but omg when people have animations and I'm trying to read a longer piece I get so woozy >.< ... lol I have to copy/paste anything I want to read at that point if it's not crossposted >.<....
Tumblr is weird because it encourages me to be very blatantly aggressive lol. Like, you can't make any locked posts or anything, so basically I am just SCREAMING MY ISSUES INTO THE ETHER or reblogging people who are Wrong and committed the error of tagging it.
Basically this is how I feel when I head into the tracked tags:
I completely understand your impulse to to let everyone know how wrong they are. I've had the same issue there with my show - though I'm happy it's on hiatus now and fewer people are being WRONG about everything. I did make a tumblr recently but I haven't actually used it yet because I want to spend some time playing with how things work there first. I think I'll try to stay with the pretty pictures and avoid the ranting meta. :)
Fortunately I couldn't care less about Sherlock meta. I'm just happy to read fic! I'm kind of glad the show I'm into currently doesn't inspire a whole lot of meta rage. XD
Tumblr is so bad news for me. I try to not get myself in debates and stuff. But ugh. When people tag their posts hating on my favorite characters, I am incapable of not replying because it's just right there in front of me. I don't go looking for haters, but I can't ignore them when they are taunting me in the tag!
UGH. I probably would be doing that too. Well, I imagine anyone who posts hate on a specific tag really is looking for arguments. To say otherwise is just ridiculous.

Yeah, it seems like a lot of chaos combined with passive agressiveness. XD
