We at Evolution use phpBB, which is open-source. I am not the tech admin, so I have no idea how difficult it is to set up. It's fairly easy to administrate as a non-techie, though. :P
That's the only one I know of that I personally would say is [i]good[/i] and that I know is free of popups and ad banners and shit. Hope it helps!
