It's not that difficult. There's not so much too it. All you have to do is settle just above what is expected. Preferably in everything. If expectancies change, change with them. Preferably a little before. "All you've got to do is shine."

I'm trying not to turn into what people expect me to be. It's hard, really hard, but I think I'll be happier this way.

But it seems that people will be upset no matter what you choose, in this case. =(
