Birdies

I like walking down Unara Street. There are some large trees, and all sorts of birds hang out there. Rainbow lorikeets , pigeons with pointy crests, little wrens, a family of ibis, the odd crow - and the ever-present mynah birds.

Cool birds. Out of those, we only have pigeons and wrens. I think ibis might be occasional visitors, but I've never seen one. The most exotic thing you'd see in London is feral green parakeets. I feel an affinity with them as an immigrant.

The presence of ibis is bitter-sweet. They're fun to have around in small doses. But they're here because they've managed the diet change from wetland food to garbage. So they're usually a bit grubby rather than their natural pure white, and they're always bin-diving.

The positive is they're no longer likely to go extinct.
