Rang Mum tonight to let her know the progress of my application*. After humming and ha-ing, Mum ended up saying, "Don't come down just for us. We'll cope fine." Dad's moving better after his latest opp than he has in years; he should be driving again soon. Mum seems to be ok with getting the groceries for both of them. I don't want to try and second-guess your relationship with your parents, or guilt trip you. However:

It's not about how well they are at present, it's about how well they're going to be in n years' time, where n is a variable that might be as high as two digits with a leading 2 or 3.

Nobody likes to admit that they need outside help, and maybe they can manage just fine ... for now. But it's a hard judgement call.

The "...yet" is the catch.

Though I'll miss you, you don't want to be forced to move to Hobart in a hurry - especially if you've already got an offer of employment. Maybe now is the time before things get worse.

That's a good point, because there's not a lot of jobs in Hobart (or, indeed, in Tasmania.)

It is a good point. Hobart's employment situation is usually worse than elsewhere. So getting a job while the getting's good is probably a good idea.
