Zombies? Meh.

I find zombie horror fiction suspect and boring, on the whole. I feel it is based on a fear of common people, and that bothers me. And the zombie is something that can't be reasoned with or scared off. In its way, it's like the Terminator. But the Terminator was a fear of the future. I've visited a friend in hospital, just before the end. It's a hard thing.

As for zombies, I think they can make for an effective trope, but the recent mania for them doesn't do much for me.

Hell, if I thought he was actually in there to visit, I'd do so in a flash. But those who have, including a trained nurse, say... he's not really there any more. A handful of reflexes in a balding, sunken frame.

It does seem to be the case that he's not in much pain. I'm told he winces when he is moved to avoid pressure-sores, but otherwise is calm.
