It's getting to where I'm starting to dread going to cub scouts. These parents just drop their kids off and take off. Then they gripe at us because they have no idea what's going on in scouts. I would say tell them you can't do any more outings until there's more parental attendance. But that doesn't seem like it would help if there were more attendance by the parents. They'd just stand around and watch their kid do whatever they want.
It may seem like you're fighting a losing battle, but you're doing a good thing. Think about it - if you weren't there standing in the gap, how far gone would these kids be?
I wish I had some magic words to tell you to make the parents act like parents. Just take comfort in the fact that you are not alone. Most people who work with kids run into parents like this.
hmmmm...that's not as comforting as I thought. Regardless, don't give up!
