Story Summary: She thought they would be together forever; that they were inseparable... but that was before the last day of her life. Now she's back, but she's not the same girl she was. There are things she isn't telling him; won't tell him... with good reason. A trip to visit some old friends in Cardiff cause a lot of these unspoken sentiments to come to the forefront, but not all of them are cheery and bright...
~Not your standard fluffy reunion fic. A darker side to our Golden Rose, with plenty of heated embraces... and yes, a good deal of the sweet fluff-stuff, but it's hard not to indulge!~
Chapter Setting: Pete's World; Late April, 2010.
Jackie Tyler bit at one of her perfectly manicured nails. Her husband sighed, and reached up to remove it before it came to any harm.
“She got through, Jacks. Stop worrying, she’ll find him.” Jackie sighed now and wrapped her arms around her.
“I know that. It’s just… She’s my daughter; I’m going to miss her and how will we explain this to Jamie?” Pete Tyler set an arm comfortingly across her shoulders.
“It’s hard to believe she’s gone for real, you know.” Mickey Smith looked up from his keyboard.
Two monitors sat side by side in front of him. One had marked the progress of the small vessel as it flew towards the center of the diagram. The three of them had watched Rose’s ship disappear off the radar. The second screen had held a live video feed of Rose until the very last second.
Mickey rewound the last few minutes of video. Rose’s face, determined and serene, flickered into view. Mickey pressed play. Her voice filtered through speakers.
“Mickey, you be good and take care. You always were the bravest human I’ve ever met and you make sure that little Jaime learns that from you. Thanks for everything. I love you.” She smiled into the camera before continuing.
“Dad, take care of everyone for me. I won’t be around to defend the Earth anymore, so you’ll have to watch out for those aliens. You were the best dad a girl could ever ask for. I love you.” At this point, Rose blinked away tears and put on a brave smile.
“Mum, please don’t cry for me. I’ll be all right. I’m going to miss you, but I’ll be with the Doctor, and you know he will keep me safe.” She swallowed as the picture flickered.
“I’m just about out of range. Always remember, I love you. Give Jamie a kiss for me. Make sure he knows his big sis will always love him…” The video began to fade and static crackled through the speakers.
“I love you…” Then she was gone.
