Jack pulled one of her feet out from under his thigh and rubbed her toes. It made her think twice about broaching the subject. They had so little time together

Oh, wow, this is lovely. The oddball piecemeal relationship and how that's okay because that is just who they are, and the deflecting and dodging but eventually getting to the point, and the context with the team and the setting and everything. That is a whole lot in not very many words. I love it.

Gorgeous. It's bittersweet that they've waited for everything, even these kinds of conversations that they perhaps should have had years ago, but now finally do. Nice parallel there in the structure as well.
