The circus, life et al

The CircusIt's now official! Indian cricket has been thrown to the dogs. I have tried hard NOT to follow the recent controversy that's been plaguing the cricket team, but it's tough to keep away from this drama that could give the melodramatic,tear-jerker soaps we see on television as much a run for their money as it could to reality standup comedy ( Read more... )

It is really unfortunate that this issue does not seem to have a solution which does not taste sweet atleast for sometime to come. Thanks to the BCCI for letting matters reach such a level. I guess the board will be rueing why they selected Chappell in first place.

Whatever decision BCCI is going to take will surprise me, either by its foresight or by the lack of it at this abysmal situation. I secretly hope they favour Ganguly, so that Indian cricket is taken to its nadir and other sports start getting their due.

neither chappell nor ganguly is going..and I silently hope chappell quits in disgust..that's the best thing that could happen to our cricket which believes individuals are greater than the game.

Your complaint, I think is the display of lack of integrity by most involved in this circus. To that I say this. Mankind in general, has always been the hungry child, always hungry for more. From whatever life I have seen, integrity, almost always hits a ceiling, where you can't have more. And lack of integrity, I believe, then is a key to that fullfillment, to acheiving that more. So things happen. However, the interesting thing here is, that the same human, feels wronged if lack of integrity is shown towrads him or his world-by which I mean things that bind him. That I believe is the story of most well-to-do humans today ( ... )

The irony is that Chappell was Ganguly's first choice as coach, because of the work that he had done with Ganguly's batting a few years back. Ganguly is behaving like a graceless immature brat. Chappell's e-mail reveals some very disturbing things about Ganguly.

>For years now, Indian cricket has always been about individuals and not the team as a whole.

Not quite. In the recent past, yes. But in the glory days when Yuvraj and Kaif could take the team from 97/5 to 300-plus, Ganguly and Wright had built a team.

On the subject of Chesterton, have you read the Father Brown stories? They're available for free online. Of course, Chesterton was a die-hard Catholic apologist, and that gets annoying at times. But the stories are well worth reading.

yes, Ganguly's behaviour is quite typical of a man who's become used to using his statistics of the distant past as crutches to lean on. but then chappell probably underestimated the BCCI politics - probably the man has taken on the system much too soon without getting himself acquainted with the power equations involved.

true that ganguly and wright did build a team, but I wish Ganguly understood how minimal his contribution has been in recent times..this cannot be a form slump, it has to be something deeper I think at times.

Hey yes, I've been wanting to read Chesterton's father brown series for a while now..send me the link - I could use it for my lunch time breaks:)

Hope rest is well on the english side:)
