Yeah. The whole Oracle paragraph just makes me SO ANGRY on SO MANY LEVELS. Have a taste:
"Now robbed of her freedom and mobility, Barbara's new persona suppressed her emotional female nature in order to make herself stronger. As Oracle, Barbara was a picture of cold, emotionless male efficiency, a peer for Batman, and in an ironic sense, his ideal mate."
SAY FUCKING WHAT. THEY DID NOT EVEN. AUGH. EXCEPT FOR HOW! AND! WITH THE! WHAT ABOUT ALL THE STUFF WITH CASS WHERE BRUCE WAS LIKE I WILL JUST STICK HER IN HER OWN CAVE ALONE AND SHE WILL BE FINE BECAUSE SHE IS JUST LIKE ME AND BARBRA WAS LIKE UM HOW ABOUT WE TREAT HER LIKE A PERSON OKAY? CLEARLY THAT WAS HER SUPPRESSING EMOTIONS TO SEEM LIKE A TOUGH DUDE. (um sorry. Am in the middle of re-reading Cass Batgirl stuff which um, means I am ALREADY coming into this conversation angry. Angry and also in love with Oracle. Which is actually kind of my default setting anyway so never mind.)
Also I feel like someone who uses phrases like "emotional female nature" shouldn't be writing a book about superhero ladies. But I am probably just being judgmental. And emotional.
Later on he says Gail Simone's BoP is "the superheroine Sex And The City". And completely misses the point of this sequence by explaining it as "In the end, she finds her true role in life may have been less about crime and punishment, and more about mercy." NO.
I've been angry and also in love with Oracle for um, five years or so, uh.
