You don't have the guts to take the truth or consequences

This started out as a comment to sharpest-rose, then it got really long and it got really late, so I saved my thoughts and went to bed.
Re: Amanda Palmer acting like a teenager who has just discovered that other people have opinions )

Guess what? Who you are on the internet? That is you. Things that you do on the internet? You are responsible for doing them. You. You. You.

Yes! THAT!

Ugh. This whole mess is just, ugh.

I think the world would be a better place if everybody realised that their actions have consequences, even on the internet.

I just... Expected better from her than this.

The internet. It's REAL. I mean, this comment I'm about to post EXISTS. It was written BY ME. And you're reading it and you're REAL. So if you have a reaction to what I'm saying then it's REAL. I honestly don't know why that's so hard for people.

Sigh. Sadly I did not. I've already had a while with mentally separate pockets for Amanda Palmer talented songwriter who has made music that's really personally important for me and Amanda Palmer kind of an asshole. It's hard though and I'm sorry it's happening to you in a big swoop like this. No fun at all.

Ughhhh. You know, she was one of the few musicians I really trusted to get it right on the important things, so this is a huge disappointment. But when I think about, I guess I can't see her reacting in any other way. She never seemed the type to apologize (unfortunately).

Yeah. I keep going over things in my head being like "Well, why didn't I see this coming?" But god. I thought she was one of the good ones.

This is a lovely post. I'm semi-affiliated with FWD/Forward*, who have been covering this, and it's been pretty rough.

I only just recently got into Palmer's music (started listening to "Who Killed Amanda Palmer?", like, this month). So I hadn't formed quite the same sort of trust/respect for her as a lot of people I know have done. Which may be for the best, really.

But yeah. You are pretty much right-on here.

I wrote most of this at like two in the morning, I'm glad other people find it reasonably coherent and thoughtful.

There aren't a lot of talented musicians that I trust to also be decent people. I guess I have to cross one more off my list.

I really don't understand people who think what they say on the internet doesn't matter. It's like this XKCD: If you're a jerk on the internet you're a jerk in REAL LIFE.
