Barbara, the member of our team who got made redundant, left yesterday.  She didn’t want any fuss, so we just went to the pub for a lunch and then she left early.  Her bother is paying for her and her daughter to spend Christmas with them in Venice and then, in January, she starts job-hunting.  This is not a good time to be job hunting, there’s so ( Read more... )

Sounds like they are actually trying to cut costs in all areas, not just staff. Some companies just cut staff and keep other controllable spending at a ridiculously high level.

I hope Barbara finds new work quickly; and I think I might just envy Lesley a bit.

Mr T's theory of company management includes the idea that a company serious about cost cutting looks at expenses first and goes through them with a fine tooth comb. And when they do this, they usually save themselves a packet! This is the first time that we've done this - and it's come as quite the shock. My job never came with expense related treats, but alot of the managers are sulking big time! LOL!

Thank you. I hope so too :) And ditto. I'd love to be able to retire!

Got payrise today. Payrise is so pitiful that they did't even bother quoting a percentage in the letter :(

Obviously relying on the fact that I Am Grateful To Be Still Employed. Gah!

Yea for the payraise, small though it maybe.

Senior management will let me know today if managers and above will get ours in February. (they have to let me know because I have to adjust the budget accordingly)
I'm ok with no raise if it helps me keep my job.

PS ..... THUD for the new icon.

Which one?! I've been busy with the Icons.

Mr T did the math, it's less than 1% and won't even cover my train fare increase! As Ordinary Mum said, I don't mind working, but I do mind working for free! Hoping for a raise and a job for you! You work darned hard and deserve both!
