I am so sorry that you're continuing to have notices from the City about your yard. We are very lucky that we don't have to take care of our yard. Our Landlord does it. If it was left to us, we'd be in trouble.

You mother must be on some good pain meds. I've heard shingles is really painful!
My sense is that movers & shakers are friends socially and keep each other in the loop, whereas I inhabit my own tiny world.
Yeah, this is generally how it goes. That's why I don't do things like local clubs. Or socializing.
Ponds are so hard to take care of. A couple of people in our town had them when they were in yardly fashion and they eventually just filled them in. It doesn't get easier.
