Is northern Michigan different that Upper Michigan?

Yes. If you look at Michigan on a map, you will see that we are in two parts, the mitten and the Upper Peninsula. Northern Michigan (to my mind anyway) would be where the fingers lie in the mitten, especially above the knuckles. Upper Michigan would be anywhere in the Upper Peninsula. Upper is a lot further away from Detroit than is Northern.

Yep. I've been to the UP several times. Used to ski there back in college and have been to a cabin near Ishpeming several times.

Just wondering if when people below the bridge mean the main area of the state when they say northern Michigan :-)
