I get this too. Lots of chatting going on. I can keep it pretty hidden though so don't have much of a problem. From time to time there may be something that's a little bit too much for work. Ya never know who's watching and not really who's right behind me.

I am a professional geek in the real world, so I hope to share some knowledge about IMing and work.

Most people do not realize it, but all Instant Message conversations can be logged by your employer.

So it is not just that you need to worry about a colleague seeing your PC screen, it's that you don't want to be called into an office one day and have to explain yourself.

Try to be careful at work with IM, both in topic, and quantity. The job you save by being frugal with IM and careful may be your own.

True enough. You just hope and wish it's not you that gets called in. Either that or the IT guys like what they are reading;)
