I don't have any specific memory of the jimmies being different, but I was always into the crunchy stuff between the cake layers (which they also put on cones).

Look in your local supermarkets for Mr. Sprinkles brand.(Container shaped like a light bulb) If you don't find them ask the store manager if they order it for you. They are the exact same as the old Carvel ones.
