Top Ten Phobias

Nov 05, 2009 08:51

Recently, I read an article about phobias. In the story was a list of the Top Ten Phobias. I've recreated the list in a poll. The extreme fears go from the # 1 fear - snakes - to the #10 - the dentist. Do you have an extreme fear that isn't listed? Ones that come to my mind, not on the list, are the "fear of dying" or the "fear of being alone". A ( Read more... )

I have some sort of social anxiety, which also exhibits itself as testing anxiety, not sure if those count as phobias...

I'm curious .. Did you click on one of the boxes? Are the boxes in the poll showing? I'm not certain I did the poll correctly. Could you let me know? The article used the terms "extreme fears" and "phobias" interchangeably. My niece has a testing anxiety, so I know what you mean. Social anxiety might equal fear of other people in terms of this list.

HUGS!

I tested the boxes, they worked.

I put other because I've had pretty severe issues with social phobia in my life. It's been a long road to deal with it but I've worked pretty hard to make deal with it better than I used to. I didn't choose "other people" because I'm not really sure if it's truly other people I'm phobic about or just certain social situations. It's all very weird and fascinating (well, when I'm not having a panic attack LOL) to me.

Funny how much being a tramp can help in these situations...

Perhaps, it's like Marilyn Monroe. You're afraid of things blowing up your skirt! :) Seriously, it could be a variation of the fear of heights, falling or close spaces.

Thanks for participating!

Gravity is not always my friend.

When on the roof of my house, or standing at the front row of balcony seating, I feel gravity tugging at my lapels, actually trying to pull me closer and over the edge; the shingles or carpeting only too willing to catch my foot as I step forward.

My father would often say, "It's not the fall that hurts you, it's the sudden stop." This is not comforting.

I hear you. The last time I experienced such a feeling was in the new Dallas Cowboys Stadium a few weeks ago. The steps are so steeply pitched and narrow; everything is tilted toward the field. I was really concerned for the seniors with canes trying to negotiate the steps. Of course, I was 10 rows from the top.

I hope you're telling me that your father had a sense of humor:)

I live in terror of not living up to my expectations.

It sounds like a jest, but it paralyzes me sometimes.

But in the sense of real phobias, Drowning.

I understand. One of the phrases I use over and over in interviews is that my goal is to always exceed expectations. I mean it. I put more pressure on my self to perform than any manager or director could ever conceive.

I'm surprised that "drowning" isn't in the Top 10.

HUGS!

Absolutely none of the phobias listed. Can't think of anything in particular that 'phobes' me :)

Homo-phobes?

It's terrific that you don't have any extreme fears. I can't say that .. but, I can say that I face them and try to overcome them.
