In those situations it is better you kill it then yourself trying to avoid it. I always had the same dilemma driving home in Tassie with the wildlife rushing out on the roads when I drove home from my night job, swerving to avoid an animal can be very dangerous for you. The fact you feel sad and remorseful demonstrates that you're a decent human being and it's ok to feel sad

Indeed... as much as I dislike the feeling... I am glad that I am capable of it - and I'd not have it any other way... It just came as a bit of a shock to me, is all.

Well, one hopes that the snakes and lizards gain their adaptions soon! :-)

You're right tho re not beating oneself up over this sort of thing - it was accidental and not an act of selfishness or malice - so sadness is a reasonable response - within reasonable limits!
