The point is that he's intentionally oblivious. He knows he's pissing people off, and that's exactly his point. Getting this story in the paper was his goal.

Oh, what some people won't do to get written about in a newspaper, when they could simply DROP DEAD and get exactly the same result.

More to the point, the guy succeeded in nothing more than looking like a laughingstock. Are more people going to name their kids Adolf Hitler now? Are there more than a handful of folks out there saying, "Dammit, he has a RIGHT to HITLER CAKE!"? Probably not. That's why I never buy the argument that an intentionally oblivious nimrod has won when he manages to promote himself as a gigantic ass. After a few days of the phone ringing off the hook, anonymous threats, and general head-shaking aimed his way, I wonder if he'll still be able to convince himself that he's a firebrand. If you're going to be an enemy of the people, at least make your cause something more than demanding that your right to be an asshole be taken seriously.
