AdAge huffily reports that an Obama presidency and Democratic Congress will make it harder for advertisers and marketers to invade our privacy and sell us shit we don't need. With my old job, I used to work in the same building that held one of Dallas's biggest marketing firms. Particularly by New York, Los Angeles, or Chicago standards, this firm was a joke, and just about everyone knew that it was a workfare program for Southern Methodist University's marketing program. (SMU's journalism program is a similar joke, so we have lots of publications like D and Paper City and American Way that are heavily subsidized so that prospective students don't discover what their real chances for employment will be once they graduate.) I very rapidly made a point of coming in early and leaving after the Richards Group idiots would leave, because almost all of them saw a full elevator as an excuse to test one moronic marketing theory or another on a crowd that couldn't escape for five minutes. By the time I left, we were all so sick of being quizzed about various products and services being hyped by the Group that they'd get on at the 10th to 15th floors, and you could hear a collective "SHUT THE FUCK UP" resonating ( ... )
