And so on...

I spent the Saturday dancing to a CD of an obscure Taiwanese boy-band pop, juggling in the park, and shooting water-guns at Claire, Benji, Emily, and strangers who got in my way. It was a good day, but an epiphinal moment led me to realize that I need to cut down on the drinking. I have been drinking too much for my own comfort, if not necessarily ( Read more... )

The job isn't so bad, but the project is boring as all hell.

Heck, I had three months of office work in my last twenty years, and that was enough!
How are C, B, and E? I just returned to the U.S. a couple weeks ago, and I don't know who is where, how, or what. I haven't seen anyone from that group since, oh yeah, POLYSICS!

I have been talking with an increasing number of people who only work at jobs for about three months at a time. I was shocked --shocked, mind you, to learn of such people. Not only are these people I respect, but they are amongst the most normal, well-balanced people I know, for whatever that's worth.
Anyway, E., B., and C., are all doing well, to the best of my knowledge. Last time we met, we talked of insubstantial, casual things which don't lead to a deeper understanding -except that they kind of do.

Wait a minute now... are you calling me "normal" and/or "well-balanced"?? I take offense! ;-)

My god, man. This job is cake, compared to, for instance, the archaeology gig I was on before I was here. At least here, the temperature variation is within a few degrees, I don't have to wear multiple layers, and I don't come home with all my muscles aching and my clothes filthy.

Thank your lucky stars that you are educated enough to not have to dig ditches or the like. How do you have the energy to _teach_ during the school year?

Jesus, way to kick me when I'm down.
I'm sorry your previous job was more difficult then my current one, but I don't really see what that has to do with anything.
If being easy is your sole idea of what makes a job good, then we really don't have anything to talk about, career-wise. I have the energy to teach because teaching is meaningful to me.

No, not at all. I'm just trying to say that it could be worse. I guess I didn't understand that the stress you complain of was in the nature of the job, rather than in the actual duties. I should have understood, since your chosen task of teaching, to me, would be very high-stress, while office work seems so effortless. It's very hard for me to understand meaningfulness within a job setting, since I have never really had a sense of that in my work life. Sorry, didn't mean to get you down. I understand from Chris that I can sound like a pissy bitch in my writing, even when I don't plan to...
