Dear friends,

Does anyone know about the inner workings of machinery? Because there is a machine in my kitchen that does I know not what, and it is vexing me very greatly.

Your servant,
CB

When I first had a kitchen, I thought the coffee maker was trying to kill me, and that the freezer was for shoes. Maybe if you describe the machine, that could help narrow it down?

Certainly. It is large, with great wires and coils in the back, and panels on the front that, when pressed, shoot small cold projectiles at one. And it seems to be in a situation of permanent draft.

I'm no kitchen expert, but what you're describing sounds like a refrigerator- it's to keep your food cold and fresh. You have a nice one, it seems, with an ice dispenser on the front!

Ah, a refrigerator? Marvelous! Thank you very much for telling me. What sorts of things go in a refrigerator? I confess I have never had one.

What is an ice dispenser to be used for? I confess I have never known a great need for ice.
