Though there were some displeasing moment in the movie, for example, the whole "Yellowface" thing, I do not believe it is as bad as people say.
Personally, I am just glad that Cloud Atlas cast actually had Asian actresses in them and not just a white-washed film. You have Chinese actress Zhou Xun play three small roles, but they are quite significant. She plays a rebellious clone in the future and a protective mother in the even-more-distant future. All character’s played: Talbot / Hotel Manager / Yoona-939 / Rose.
Her makeup she had on as Rose (a white woman) was admittedly quite impressive! :D
