Interested to see you went for cooking it on the hob rather than in the oven. I've found recently that my oven casseroles have been tastier and less watery than my hob-based ones; wonder what I'm doing wrong on the hob?
It's just the season to start thinking about lovely wintery stews and things. I've done several this week and loaded up the freezer, because work will be insane for the next month or so - the lamb, lentil and tomato came out particularly well (and we therefore ate more and saved less for the freezer than I had intended, ho hum...)
Tonight's dinner (which was a gratin, admittedly, not a stew) was so popular that it completely buggered my Cunning Plan of keeping enough for the RG to feed to the Small Persons for tomorrow's tea, as everyone scoffed first and second helpings! Note to self: my children will eat almost *anything* if I cover it in cheese sauce...

From behind my shoulder, Mr A sez: "Try taking the lid off sooner, and leaving it for an hour's rest with the heat off."
