Goodbye and good riddance

Tomorrow, a new President is inaugurated. An historic inauguration, to be sure, but one that finally puts an end to Georgie's execrable reign. With a final smirk to everyone who fell for his act, he leaves not caring that he is, by many measures, the worst President in history. Certainly one of the most reviled, worldwide. He leaves a broken ( Read more... )

Dude, small town America may cling to guns and religion...I guess democrats cling to George W. Bush (former President of the United States). What are you going to do when he's out of office and you can't rant at him anymore? I know, blame all future problems on him also... :-D

I celebrate the fact that usually every 4years and always every 8years, our government changes. Definitely for the better this time (hopefully), but no matter how bad the past 4 years were, I take comfort in knowing that we will have new ideas, new leadership (many past Clinton appointees not withstanding)...and I continue to take pride in that knowledge as Obama is sworn in during the inauguration and becomes MY President.

It will be clear which current and future problems are the result of Georgie's reign. The hundreds of appointees burrowed into the federal bureaucracy, the current makeup (and head) of the Supreme Court, the indelible stain caused by this country's acts of torture.

The President-Elect, as I have previously said, will do things I dislike. If he touches Social Security, for instance, in any way like what Georgie and his boys wanted to do in '05, I'll be sure to be ranting.

(I was listening to some idiot heads talking about how there are so many Clinton appointees in Obama's new administration. Like Georgie didn't borrow old retreads from the Nixon, Ford and Bush 41 adminstrations? I think there were a few Reaganites thrown in there, too. Sheesh. People have their blind spots.)

It would be an interesting analysis to see if there IS much change between Presidencies throughout history. There is a reliance on the people who have the experience, who have done the job before...of course, experience does have its problems (Cheney was probably the MOST experienced Vice-President in history :-))

I shall wait and see how different of a course PRESIDENT Obama charts on security and foreign policy...

The Economist had a nice discussion of how Obama's appointments tread the same groove as Lincoln's, with lots of opponents (in party and out) thrown in, a healthy dose of academics and scientists over standard sycophants, and strong amounts of former experience to balance the relative newcomer to the arena. Hopefully it means policy driven by inclusive thinking rather than exclusive politics.
