"Damian," she says, shutting the door. "Nathaniel said you would be here."

"Anita." He manages to say the name evenly as he closes his book and moves to set it carefully aside on the nightstand. He thinks better of the movement halfway through, and keeps it in both hands. The strange hunger to touch and be touched surges to life, and his hands tighten around the hardbound cover of the slim book. Having his hands free at the moment would be most unwise.
He sits upright. "When did you arrive?"

"That went wonderfully, I should say."

"What happened?" He purposefully avoids simply asking what she said. This way, Anita can believe he is unaware of Nathaniel and Asher's relationship if she wishes. Omission isn't exactly lying...
