Just wanted to introduce myself

I've just finished reading Maurice for the first time (finally!) and I'm going to break down and see if any of my local video stores might have a copy (it's DC - this has to be better than back home in Central Illinois, right? Ok probably not for this one). I'd heard about the comm around LJ and I simply had to join ( Read more... )

Yay! Maurice AND Forsyte Saga! I started Forsyte last October and am only a few chapters in, because school reading ended up tkaing my precious Forsyte time away from me. I hope to finish it this summer...

I had just started "To Let" when I had to get back to schoolwork. But I have to say, The Man of Property taught me everything about Victorian society that my Social and Intellecutal History professor was trying to use Middlemarch to teach. I love Galsworthy's writing: the last time I got so hooked on writing style was Edith Wharton. It's neither victorian nor modern but the best of both, really.

Yes, I love his style.

Have you seen the Masterpiece Theater/BBC version of Forsyte? That's what got me hooked.

I've seen the whole first series - I'm waiting on To Let until I've read Galsworthy first.

I'm so annoyed they made Ioan straighten his hair! Philip Bosinney has curly hair in the book! (of course, he's also not nearly as good-looking as Ioan and I believe has one of those bad Edwardian moustaches. I have a love-hate relationship with the Edwardian era - lovely men, lovely clothes, hideous moustaches. I had to meet Julian Ovenden when he had a hideous moustache for a role. I shouldn't complain over meeting Julian Ovenden, but the moustache was bad - it's really a 1920s bad moustache, and *headdesk* that's where much of my mental image of Maurice was coming from. Julian Ovenden. The hair, the moustache, the shape of the face though not the features - well, could be worse.)

Welcome!

I really like Kitty as well, because she sees through Maurice trying to act like he's in charge of everything.
