Way back in 1979, after having spent a ridiculous amount of cash on Star Trek: The Motion Picture, Paramount execs insisted that all the effects shots they paid for be put in the final cut of the film, so they'd feel like they were getting their money's worth. Maybe it'll set a new precedent and be a movie that releases a special edition DVD that's actually SHORTER than the theatrical release.

Funny you should mention that, since that's exactly what happened with the Director's Cut DVD of Star Trek: The Motion Picture.

Okay, so maybe PotC:AWE will RE-establish a new old precedent by releasing a shorter version on DVD.
