I think it's a beautiful article, and very well said. But the tenor of it made me rather suspicious, so I checked snopes. It was written by an American, after all. But is no less moving for that!
Clever :D (But they forgot Swedish. Chicago was Sweden's fifth biggest city or something back in the early 20th century ;D So many Swedish immigrants lived there...)
A bit overtly pro-American, though, but whatever. Good anyway.
I remember the at the ceremony for the Statue of Liberty in the 1980s, President Reagan said, "You can go to Japan, but not become Japanese. You can go to Spain, and not become a Spaniard. But ANYONE can come to the this country and become an America." How very true.
OT: hi, i´m a freind from esda. she has for a moment no Internet. tomorrow I phone her and then i hope more to get to know. (sorry for my bad english -_-) bye tenshi
I have internet again ^^° This morning at 6 o'clock, when our "FritzBox" disconnected from the web - it wouldn't reconnect o.O; Later that day we found out that our internet provider stopped supporting the DSL internet connection (DSL = highspeed internet in Germany). They told us about that via email 2 months (!) ago. But the email was addressed to my mother and she barely reads her emails *headdesk*. So we had to look for a new provider and I thought it would perhaps take DAYS until we have a (fast) web connection again, but then it was just a matter of a few hours ^^ Phew!
I called Tenshi (ten_chan") and left a message on her mailbox and told her to tell some people what was up, so they don't get angry, if I don't answer their emails or lj-comments or else ^^°
