On German citizenship, redux

I just called the German Consulate-General in Melbourne.  It looks like that I AM a German citizen, given the circumstances of my birth.  Right now I need to get together the proof required.

I also need to sort out this whole national service thing...

The National Service thing makes the whole "not finding a job" scenario very interesting - but the civil service option is probably just as likely. What're the fitness requirements for military service in Germany, anyways?
