Parker dropped the teasing in favor of, "I'm so sorry, Chris. That had to be horrible for you." She sighed. "But everyone's okay now? They have it dealt with? How did they find the cure for this thing?"
"A group of us went into Special Collections yesterday," Chris said. "Karal found an old journal that talked about what sounded like the same disease hitting the island a few hundred years ago. It said that the only way to beat it was with grace and humility. Luckily, Adah had found some reference to those being herbs at some point."
"Adah, that's River's friend... okay, way to go Karal," Parker said. "And way to go you guys, but omigod, Special Collections? Gahhh." She facepalmed, remembering the place well. "Tell me no one got hurt in there!"
"No one got hurt in there," Chris said. "Except apparently Adah had been getting sick and hiding it well, because she collapsed right after we found out about the herbs. I scryed to find out exactly where we could find the herbs and then orbed everyone out to the preserve. I guess using that much magic wore me out, because when we got back to town hall with the herbs, I collapsed. But they brewed a tea with the herbs and everyone got well as soon as they drank it."
"Man." Parker was quiet a minute, then said, "You silly, silly, silly, brave, silly, smart, silly, stupid boy. Don't ever scare me in retrospect like that again, please. Sheesh."
"I get that. I do. But working yourself to a collapse? Not your duty. You're not alone, you doofus," Parker's voice softened a tiny bit. "Although I'm very glad you helped out. And that you're okay. How are Wyatt and Isabel? I haven't heard back from her yet."
"I wasn't alone," Chris pointed out. "It took all of us to make sure no one else died. I think Wyatt and Isabel are fine. She didn't get sick, but Wyatt wore himself out trying to heal everyone."
"Typical family trait, sounds like." Parker smiled in relief, then said, "Right. I was trying to get you guys since Tuesday though. What was up with that?"
"Hey, Parker. I got your message."
