Black Rock City, NV; Monday evening, approaching the gate

Parker had her shades on, and was slowly fanning herself with a hand-painted silk fan she'd traded three Teal Dear CD's for. She opened her eyes and gazed out Dave's front windshield. "Wow. Another fifteen feet. At this rate, we'll be in L.A. by Saturday." She yawned. "Maybe we should walk."

Zero, perched behind Dave's wheel, was getting increasingly cranky as the wait wore on. "Nooooo, I have to go to classes!"

"How was Janelle covering for you up 'til now, anyway?" Parker wondered, rummaging in the cooler for another bottle of water. She leaned over the seat and said, "Awesome exhibition, Hector. Just so you know."

"Heh. Thanks." Hector looked very satisfied and tanned. "Got three commissions on order now. And got interviewed by about fifteen people."

"Janine," Zero corrected. "And she's been telling anyone who asked I have dragon pox." She glanced in the rearview mirror and asked, "How you doing back there, Rainbow?"

Rainbow Moonflower jerked awake from where she'd fallen asleep over a treatise on crystals her mom had given her. "Huh, what? Are we there yet?"

"We're half-way to the moon, nowhere near L.A." Parker suggested, then handed Rainbow a water bottle too. "Did you have a good festival?"

"My parents are starting an organic winery," Rainbow said after a long pause. "So, I'm not sure."

"Ahhh. Wellll...." Parker shook her head, then looked back at Zero. "Janine, got it. Oh my god. I just realized. A real shower is waiting for us in L.A. Not one that carries the risk of dust or sunburn or public exposure. I'm not sure if I can stand it."
