Police checkpoint at Rolling Meadows apartment complex gets mixed reviews

Owner and some residents say it's a civil rights violation but others like it

An aging Rolling Meadows apartment complex became a closed community of sorts this week when police blocked off every entrance but one, placing two officers there for eight hours a day and stopping all vehicle traffic coming in.

Police in the northwest suburb put barriers at 12 of the complex's 13 access points amid a sharp rise in major crime, and some of the 2,000 residents at 12 Oaks at Woodfield say they are happy to see the police presence.

But the owner and other tenants say the barricades are an inconvenience and the checkpoint is borderline harassment.
