I bought the Superman DVD set the other day as I hadn't seen the original since I was a kid and haven't seen the other three. Although the fourth sounds awful. I can't wait to see number three, Richard Pryor as a baddy
( ... )
Was Ned Beatty's character Superman's bumbling sidekick? Or Luthor's? I don't recall any bumbling sidekick although Luthor has three male henchmen and a girlfriend who follow him around.
Yeah, it made me happy that they used that Brando footage. I think it was just cool seeing his face again, even if he was wearing that god-awful white wig. lol.
I think that's interesting, your comment about stage actors being better than film actors. May I ask why you feel that way? I always thought of it as two completely different forms of acting, and one was never better than the other. Stage actors must be more expressive with their body and voice, while film actors have the fortune of being able to use more facial expressions because of the camera shoved in their faces.
Be sure to let me know what you thought of the film when you see it. :)
The reason I've always believed that stage actors are the better, is mainly due to the fact that they have to go up there every night and get everything right. Plus do all that in front of a packed house. It's a very stressful environment.
So, there is no room for mistakes or countless re-takes. Plus my basis on this is to look at the actors who came from the stage, Marlon Brando, Charles Chaplin, Kevin Spacey, Al Pacino to name just a few.
Plus I used to love performing on stage in school (although it was in front of only about 50-60 people) and remember one time we performed the same 3hr show 12 nights in a row, while sitting exams during the day. The difficulty and stress of the whole thing gave me a lot of respect for stage actors.
That is an excellent point about having to perform night after night. I've seen many plays throughout my life and with the exception of once or twice, I cannot, think of a time where an actor made a mistake.
I also really give them credit for the fact that they do it even though it cuts into their social life. I mean, they perform eight shows in six days and only have one day off a week. They seem more respectable of acting as an art form. And, like you said, most of the best have come from the stage.
I used to love performing on stage as well when I was younger. I actually wish I'd pursued it, but I most likely wouldn't have been talented enough. lol.

One thing I noticed in your review, that I only bring up because it's a pet peeve...it's Christopher Reeve not Reeves. :)

Is it weird that I preferred Brandon as Clark Kent rather than Superman? It was the opposite effect for me with Chris Reeves.
