Sex, Drugs and Hollywood

Tabloids and gossip have been around for as long as humans have been on this earth. I love magazines. I especially love my weekly dose of People magazine, for its mix of celebrity gossip and everyday life. Lately though, even "classier" magazines like People, that aren't tabloids, are giving into the idle gossip and the worship of unworthy ( Read more... )

Lindsay Lohan has become a thorn in my side. I get so nauceous with writers and people claiming how talented she used to be. She was a product of Disney, nothing more, nothing less. The fact that people care about what she does in her personal life is a question mark. She's a walking punchline, and I hate that People Magazine chooses to do stories on "Where Did She go Wrong?". She indulged in drugs, that's what.

I wonder if People Magazine will even bother to feature Brad for his humanitarian efforts, or the fact that Angelina Jolie is in Iraq right now, speaking with refugees and asking for Government aid on this crucial matter. Now that I would enjoy reading about, not who screwed who at some Hollywood party. It's insulting to all our intelligence.

Yeah, I don't get some of the writers that bemoan the wasted "talent" of Lindsey Lohan. Not many of them do that, but the reporters that do really bug me. She's nothing but a waste of space and I doubt anyone will hire her unless she completely redeems herself.

In this weeks People magazine there was a brief, one page article on Brad Pitt and his efforts to build houses in New Orleans. There was nothing on Angelina's humanitarian efforts. It drives me nuts because some people say they are sick of Brad and Angelina, but that's because when they read about them they read about the stupid rumours of them breaking up. Or Jennifer Aniston coming back into Brad's life. It's all so stupid. The two of them are donating so much time and money to causes. People should pay attention to that.

Lindsay Lohan was good in the movies I've seen her, and that's that. She sucks overall, as a person. As for the other 'celebrities' - they're incredibly annoying and I don't give them the time of day. I only care about the A-list, classier, sophisticated, more respectable Hollywood celebrities because they're much better than the crap that seems to overrun the TV these days. It's tragic and sad to think that this society will buy into crap like that, and idolize it, package it, and sell it to the masses. Just rots people's brains like that.

It definately does rot the brain. I do my best to avoid those celebrities. It's just hard to ignore when they are on the cover of every magazine. It's overwhelming and incredibly irritating.

I completely agree with you. I always think about what it was like when Drew Barrymore had gone through her drug addiction and rehab at 13 and we were all very sympathetic and wanted her to get better. Now I look at Lindsay Lohan and how unsympathetic I feel and really don't give a crap about her or her career. I definitely think that it's the level of exposure that it receives. I care about it less because it's so highly publicized.

I always think about those scandals in the 40s, 50s and 60s because ... they were really scandals. Back then you didn't see 50+ photographers following someone for 24 hours a day grocery store shopping or outside of their house running to the park. I miss old Hollywood.

I'd also love to see them focusing on the good things instead of OMG BRADGELINA -- WHAT HAPPENED?! You know what, I don't care what happened. SIGH.

Exactly. It was sad when Drew Barrymore had all of her issues. She was a cute and talented kid who had a shitty mom that let her do drugs by the age of nine. But people cared. No one said bad things about her. They still don't. It's amazing how different celebrities can go through similar situations but the public only support some of them.

Oh there were always Hollywood scandals but, as you said, they weren't broadcast on every channel and on every magazine cover every day. People were aware of the scandals and while they did provoke certain reactions, it didn't consume as much time and energy and speculation that people but into talking about these supposed celebrities.

I really blame it on trash journalism (thank you, Perez Hilton and Pink is the New Blog), ONTD, and how the mags like People and Entertainment Weekly have started to really tear people up. I used to get Entertainment Weekly around 1999, and it was more about just focusing on pop culture and how great it was and yadda, and now it's just like, "Why Lindsay Lohan's career has ended," "Why the hell did a bunch of hot, sweaty men in the middle of MARCH turn out to be a surprise hit?" Personally, I'm tired of all the trash gossip. I doubt Lindsay Lohan is any worse than, say, Jerry Hall or any rockstars in the 70s.

It's really a shame they waste all their time and energy on putting down people like LiLo when they can just ignore them and focus on people who actually really have talent. I miss my old EW.

I avoid the trash journalism at all costs. I don't even really know who Perez Hilton is. I don't think I've ever seen a picture of him. I plan on keeping it that way. I love Hollywood and I love film. I love talking about it. But I don't want people to think that it means all I care about is celebrity gossip.

People really has changed over the past couple of years. Although they still have the occasional moving and relevant storyline on the cover, too much space is wasted on the antics of overrated people. I mean this weeks cover has a couple from High School Musical. Whhhaat? I didn't realize I was reading BOP magazine. lol.
