Movie Moments--Part Three

I was searching all over YouTube for some excellent clips from one of my all-time favourite films and I was astounded by the fact that there was virtually nothing on there for "The Godfather" (1972), other than trailers and crappy tributes. I have so many scenes that I love from this film, that it would have been almost impossible to choose one ( Read more... )

Why? Did you only watch it for the first time recently or did something else make you have a sudden appreciation for it? I'm curious.

Words can't describe how much I love this movie - it's just simply that, a masterpiece. Such a fantastic, beautifully written saga. When Vito takes his son to the mortuary, the way he talks to the mortician, while looking at the body of his son - wow, always gets me. *sigh* I love, love, love, looooove this movie, especially the ending - just perfect. And I get what you mean by being shocked by Sonny's death - that gets to me as well! The first time I watched it, I was in total shock as well.

Oh, I love that scene at the mortuary too. When Vito say's softly, "Look what they did to my boy." You just really get the impression that he blames himself and the lifestyle he chose to bring his family into.

Glad I'm not the only one who was floored by Sonny's death. Considering I went into the movie assuming I knew all about the famous scenes it definately was a shocker. I didn't know Sonny died. And his death was so Bonnie and Clyde-violent.

This is my Dad's favorite movie of all universal time. Well, he likes all three really. So, I grew up watching it but I never understood it until I bought him the series when I was 14/15 and watched the whole thing in a couple of days. It's everything that you've said. Truly, a masterpiece.

It's such a "dad" movie. Mine loves it too, especially in the second film when we see Vito growing up in Italy. My dad grew up in Italy and I think it makes him a little nostalgic. ;)

man Pacino looks so young...

Thanks for the video links makes me want to go rent it though - it seems like a slow film which is sometimes a problem for me

Oh, he's incredibly young. It's actually really funny. The Godfather was only his second or third film, I believe. He was still a newbie.

It depends on how much mafia-stuff interests you. I didn't find it slow at all.

Oh wow that's totally an achievement - I have to admit he has done his fair share of good films but the ones of late are kinda eh.

Ha ha well I don't mind mafia violence but I guess I'll just have to see for myself.

I think that the older you get in Hollywood, the less people come knocking on your doors. People often say that men always get great roles and that once women hit a certain age, all they can play are mothers. I think this can be the case for male actors as well. I mean, Robert DeNiro plays a father now (Meet the Parents) and Al Pacino is an old casino owner (Ocean's 13).
