Historic Back Roads Century

Yesterday I did the Historic Back Roads Century, a 100 mile bike ride through rural Virginia and West Virginia. It was awesome! This was my first century, actually my first ride ever longer than about 40 miles. It took me 5:17 to complete, for an average speed of 18.9 mph, which I thought was a pretty good pace for my first century ( Read more... )

So awesome! Another couple century rides and you won't need the Mike and Ikes; your body will switch to fat metabolism every time you blow your nose. By the way I had no idea you went to West Virginia too!!

Sweeeeeeeeet!!! I still don't understand how the body switches over, but that sounds good.

At the first rest stop, I wasn't sure what state we were in, so I asked the lady at the snack table, "Are we in West Virginia?" She got this mock-shocked look on her face, straightened up, and said "Yes, you are in West--By God!--Virginia".

YAY Century

I rode 2 centuries in Ithaca for the Ride for Life (Benefits the Southern Tier AIDS Program). I didn't really train for either, but especially not for the second one... and it showed...
but it was still cool

that terrain sounds very much like the finger lakes (up and down and up and down)

Thanks, Kaitlin! It did seem a lot like the Finger Lakes terrain. I'll hopefully be riding another century in a couple weeks. Are you still riding these days?
