I love that they call each other "partner" while in bed. Just reiterating? :D
Bobby rubbed his hand against Darien's arm, but didn't look at him, just continued to lay in the moonlight, his left arm arranged under his head.
This is such a beautiful image.
The thing about their relationship was that it wasn't so much complex as Escher-esque: intricate, maddening, and dizzying, with patterns and perspectives that seemed to change, but never did. People on the outside of it seemed alternately amused, fascinated, and annoyed by it, which was okay, since Darien felt the same way from the inside, at times.
Great description, and totally accurate.
Darien decided the best thing he could do was what they always did: trust each other to get it.
TOTALLY. *flails* For partners that didn't click immediately, they are ridiculously close by the end of S1. Thank god.

I can't imagine they'd stop calling each other that, even while having sex. *g*

Absolutely! Like I said in my post this morning, there's just something about that "'Nough said," at the end of "Flowers for Hobbes" which is almost the best thing in an episode filled with great things, just because it's the epitome of how they interact, even by that point.
I'm sure if Bobby Hobbes could hear this interior monologue, he'd have a few opinions about just who is the mastiff dog and who is the puppy cur in this particular scenario :D
The not cuddling, while constantly touching each other, is good. (We saw that in the show, didn't we? All the time.) And I like this:
Yet Darien knew he'd said the wrong thing, taken a wrong turn somehow and missed the point. He laid there, wide-awake now, and thought seriously about Bobby's question.
A sweet, sad idea, as he tries to work out what he missed. And the last five lines, when Darien finally figures out what to say, are very nicely done. :D

Oh, but what a marvelous and metaphorical use of the prompt! (I can't remember; it sounds like one of the prompts I suggested.) I love the quote at the beginning, and the banter, and Darien's introspection--all spot on, and, just, yay! Yay, I say! (ETA: I would quote specific lines, but that would be about half the story, so--yay again?)
Hee! I'm glad you liked it. The other stories I started were much more literal with the prompt, and I think much more what the prompter had in mind. But me and metaphors, we're like that. *g*

I'm glad you liked the story!
I think most of my BSOs would not be caught dead cuddling, even when they are. *g*

If Hobbes was bitching at him, he was okay.
