Title:  Deconstructing the Narnia/England dichotomy in Narnia/Inception crossover
Author: zempasuchil

THAT SECOND FOOTNOTE, Z, OMG.

I really liiiiiiike this. I especially like the exploration of the way Inception/the use of the totem can be tied to Susan's roots in both worlds and her ambiguous release of this one/reclamation of Narnia.

The totem is the key to establishing one world - the ‘real world’ - as the primary world. The totem is made in the real world, and it indicates whether one is in a dream or not. By giving Ariadne her totem, Susan surrenders that knowledge. The question itself, of “what is reality?” is no longer important. It is as good as declaring that waking England is just as real as dreaming Narnia, just as important to her.
Thiiiiiiiiiis.

UM YES SACRED AND PROFANE SPACE OMFG. I am very much in awe of you AS ALWAYS, even though Freud loooool.

I am rightfully ashamed of that footnote but I wanted to defend myself. and then I went overboard :P BUT SERIOUSLY THAT IS MY FAVORITE THING, it is a thing Yooie pointed out to me, that by explaining how if every sexual desire is "perverse" by the same quality of having pleasure as its end, then all sexualities are basically on par! who knows the extent to which he intended this, but it's very nice.

I WAS SO EXCITED ABOUT REACHING THAT CONCLUSION THROUGH THE FIC, NOT GONNA LIE :D

:DDDDD I AM SO GLAD YOU LIKE :DDDD yaaaaay, and Freud looool forever :))

Ahhhh I just realized I never commented at all on this masterpiece, which is shameful and I shall lock myself in the cupboard as punishment just as soon as I review. (In my defence, I'd first put it off because I needed a chunk of time to actually write a review that could maybe possibly do this justice. And then... well, I have no excuse.)

But aaaahhhhh, this is wonderful! This is definitely one of the few fics I was hoping the essay would be written on, because I put lots of effort into it and everything. And you have done amazing things with it! Not to mention, you pulled out stuff that I hadn't even intended when I wrote it - /except/ that I take that statement back, because isn't the point of writing an academic paper to pull out bits the author did not intend but claims to have thought of all along?

The significance of dreams is underestimated because they are not “real”, but Susan engages with both dreams and Narnia as very important and, in the end, equally ‘real’ to England and the waking world. Gorgeoussssss ( ... )

:DDD I am so glad you like it! I have sort of read things without thinking of author intent for ages, so I am glad I didn't depart crazily! And I'm glad you liked what I found in your writing! :D I had so much fun doing this essay and unpacking your fic. It was very rewarding work and I'm glad you feel rewarded too ;) <3!

don't beat yourself up too bad anyway, I still haven't made an actual response to the essay someone wrote on my stuff either! I was like "omg yay thank you this is so cool!" via chat, but this is an academic forum, right? I wanna go back and ~engage~ :))
