I think it might also be a hiker-solidarity thing. It's just the "done thing" to say hello to fellow-hikers, since you're sharing the experience and whatnot.

My favorite person was the woman who, probably half an hour away from the trailhead, told us about the 5-minutes-from-the-third-wooden-bridge landmark. She was all about the solidarity. I could've kissed her, seriously, I thought my knees were going to fall right out from under me at that point.

Dude, so not your fault. I went out and bought a rain jacket on Friday, thinking I would bring it along just in case. Of all the stuff I needed to bring, it was the one thing I forgot. Figures.

Scarf for the Win! crowgirl13 (who you did not meet, you met her sister) wore it for a half hour as we talked, petting it, saying, "I thoroughly approve of this scarf." I agree. Thank you!
