For
tvrealm, we had to pick a show and tell others why they should watch it. I picked Legend of the Seeker, so have a bunch of picspams of pretty people and pretty places. (And a wee bit of meta.)
Reason 1: The Female Characters
My favorite part about this show is the female characters. I adore their use of female characters. (Which is a surprise to like... no one. :D ) First, there is Cara and Kahlan. How often are half of the major characters two of the four main "heroes"/protagonists on a show female? Most procedurals tend to have one or two token females. And I can think of at least a few shows that don't have any major female characters, instead using them as impetus for the male characters to act (with their deaths, with being victims, whatever) or as love interests on the sidelines.
Cara and Kahlan are huge parts of the Season 2 story. (Cara doesn't appear until the Season 1 finale.) They often drive the action of the story forward. They are highly capable and are the rescuers as often (if not more often) as they are the rescued. Plus, they have a good relationship with each other. They talk and plan and banter and do all of the things that are so often now associated with "bromances" on shows.
And then you have all of the other female characters. They are everywhere. They are the good guys, the bad guys, the helpers, the prophecy creators, the rivals, the judges, the siblings, the townsfolk, the rulers, the elite guard, the powerful magic wielders... everything. Even the Creator on this show is female. Do I love all of their characters? No. But I love that they exist. I love that there is no difference between a king and a queen on this show and either is equally likely to be seen.
Reason 2: The Pretty Scenery
This show is just gorgeous. It is filmed at beautiful locations and done well. The special effects (like the boundary to the underworld) are also often just as pretty. Okay, so some of the creatures look a teeny tiny wee little bit cheesy, but that can be overlooked. I mean, look at the pretty landscapes! The show opens with the image of Kahlan galloping through the woods (in the first picspam) and it just stays pretty until the end.
Reason 3: The Fanservice
Legend of the Seeker is filled with pretty, pretty people. And they show it off. A lot.
I mean, Richard is introduced shirtless. And he only keeps his shirt on half the time throughout the rest of the show.
And then there is Darken Rahl. Who loves to wear his sleeveless vest, providing us with awesome arm porn.
And then there are the supporting cast members. Who often dress (or undress, as the case may be) similarly. Like, for example, Leo.
It isn't just the men who are pretty and who show it off. The women do too. The Mord'Sith all wear leather outfits and there is a lot of cleavage showing in other outfits. So, basically, something for everyone to look at.
And it isn't just that. It's also that the show just has fun with it all. Sure, my two favorite episodes are serious ones, but there is so much fun throughout the show as well. They put the characters in amusing plots (like "ghosts made us do it", shape shifting hi-jinks, a plot whose only purpose is to make the characters dress up in elaborate outfits, a "trapped together" episode, just so much) and just have fun watching the characters interact with each other. Plus, they always like the excuse for sexytiems. :D
Like the Mord'Sith bath...
Or a convenient lake...
Basically, this show is just about the characters. And the fun and sheer joy and entertainment that come from that. (With extra special bonus points for doing so with a ton of females.)
