Here in Colorado, DirecTV is associated with CenturyLink (aka Qwest aka US West). They have the same shitty customer service.

The problem with the "get the insurance to pay" stance is people typically max out their insurance payout with these types of disasters. Then they're usually concerned and focused with replacing essential items and paying off their mortgage and such, not paying off parasite companies (which, btw, write off equipment losses anyway). Insurance, especially renters insurance, almost never covers replacing everything that is lost.

"I couldn't believe it," he said Thursday. "I had lost everything and they acted like they could care less."

Exactly, they could and do care less, that's why it's "couldn't care less."

DirecTV is a horrible, horrible company. When we moved from Chicago to Evanston and closed our DirecTV account, they kept billing us and saying we never cancelled it. No amount of phone calls and no matter who I spoke with, the bills kept coming and kept getting higher and then they reported it to the credit bureaus.

Back in March when I tried to get a land line and ended up cancelling it after it wasn't activated, I called CenturyLink to bitch at them about it and told them to forget it. That's when I found out that DirecTV charged me for activation. I never even ordered service through them. All I ordered was a phone line. After a few calls and talking to a manager it was settled and I didn't owe a dime, but it's because of reasons like that I will never do business with CenturyLink or DirecTV (unless I have no choice).

Yeah, I will never, ever do business with DirecTV again. They'd have to pay me lots and LOTS of money.
