Oh, I didn't know that :( That sounds pretty awful.
I'll be sad to not see you around at puzzle events here anymore (you were one of the first puzzle people I met in the bay area, when the DRT's playtested/simulcast MSPH14 for us) but I hope that the move to Seattle works out for you. It's a nice city.
I will try to come down to the "big" ones still, and coordinate the right weekend to see all my friends. It was a very hard choice to make, but also the only choice I saw in a dark period to move forward with my life.
I totally understand. I did the same thing, but in reverse (I couldn't seem to get my US life back together in Seattle after living in Japan for so long, so I moved to San Francisco to see if a fresh start would help. I still haven't decided if it has worked out...)
I still go back to Seattle every few months because it's such a quick flight, to see friends or do puzzle events or whatever, so you'll probably find the same thing to be true of visiting the Bay Area! And uh, if you need to ditch any heavy heavy stacks of sudoku books before moving, I might know a good place they can go to ;)
So it did result in that way. =/ That's a bummer to hear, even if it means a lot of us puzzle fans now have a new and promising website to watch. Hopefully this will be the last time you have to deal with something so ugly.
A variety of personal and professional reasons. Once I knew I needed to get away from this area for a bit, and saw the mix of people I thought could support my next moves there, it was an easy choice. I've always thought it a likely destination, whether for science or anything else.
