This one fills in (and very quick) in the same order as the sizes are,making it a perfect battleship puzzle,atleast from solving perspective and certainly for a timed competition.

I wish the design principle of numbering every single row and column would be violated more often. I feel like it's easier to force a wider variety of logic that way. Not that this puzzle was easy or inelegant, mind.

Very good point, and I do do that a lot of the time. But the USPC doesn't. So I didn't here.
