[STOLEN FROM MEMLU]

Nov 30, 2006 09:38

Hey dudes, know that meme where you comment with a fandom (or general topic of fandom in general) and I reply with some poorly articulated thoughts+opinions about said fandom or topic? Let's do that meme.

Not necessarily "UNPOPULAR" opinions, I am not exactly FANDOM SALMON, but I'll list those if I have 'em.

dweebery, giant orgy, lame memeage

I've actually never been into Harry Potter! But lessee if I can wing this:

- I HAVE NOT READ BOOK 6

- Except for all the hilarious excerpts I got to hear while everyone and their mom was reading it, all around me, oh yeah, all day and all of the night

- HP FANDOM IS A SEA OF BLOOD; the stains will never come out no matter how much you wash, scrub, or scrape.

- I don't get how Snape got to be a hottie, as in the books he is clearly described as very unattractive and gross

- WTF IS HARRY/DRACO, FANDOM?

- The Marauders interest me. Especially since Rowling's spent the past two books further blurring the lines between the UPSTANDING MORAL GOOD GUYS and, you know, the more realistic scenario of fallible human people who ultimately choose to stand up for what's right.

- Actually it's funny that one of my TOP FIVE EVER FANFIC (shoebox_project is a Harry Potter fic.

- I may or may not harbor an inappropriate crush on Emma Watson

- I wish there would be more FASHIONPORN, like there used to be. Now everyone keeps fighting and shit. What IS this.

- The Breach fandom has come to a point where the fanon is such a rich, deep, and meaningful tapestry that it's hard to resist I subscribe to Wacky Arrancar Hijinx (ROMANTIC COMEDY VERSION), Momobags, and Urahara's meth lab / dealings "kind bud laced with PCP".

- I still can't believe we made up a whole Benihime/Urahara THING. I feel dirty.

- Byakuya is hi-LARIOUS

- WHY DOES NO ONE SUPPORT zabimaru/renji- By which I mean, Renji will probably never get it from Rukia, as she sees him as a LOYAL BEST FRIEND. Ichigo, OTOH, seems completely asexual in manner of the manga's demographic, though that bit with Him and Yoruichi in the cave was COMEDY GOLD ( ... )

i bought a Byakuya pin at Auroracon and then was so disappointed when I finally got to him in the manga and OH MAN WHAT A STUCK UP JERK.

I'm also amazed at Bleach fanon. After reading all the available manga, I was like, "so, wait, where's everybody getting all this info about Shuuhei?"

also ikkaku is kind of hot

Byakuya is not so much a jerk as a train wreck. Also: repressed wife--->sister-in-law projection issues. Amusing how much the fandom worships him, when he is SO MUCH BETTER SUITED for merciless mockery.

It's Shuuhei's 69 tattoo. Backstories had to be created about how it is evidence of his having slept his way up te ranks or something. I DON'T READ THAT SHIT.

Ikkaku would be hottest in a black suit&tie deal.

Actually I have never even delved into Avaytar fandom. I hear Zuko's gay for Jet. RIGHTEOUS ( ... )

I actually heard the other way around, Jet stalking Zuko and all.

(Dude, the "powerful bender" should be Toph, because water ninja and earth master + grrrrls totally tops Zuko screaming Linkin Park to the skies.)

Tell us how you feel about CLAMP. :D

Uh umm errr HEM HEM CLAMP and I have a rich LOVE/HATE history. I grew up with CLAMP, used to REALLY DIG ON Clover, and Cardcaptor Sakura, and Rayearth before that. Among many things. Their art has a way of drawing you in from the outset, it was an old X/1999 calendar that drove me to order the Japanese tankoubon, back in the day when such importation was exorbitant, stupid, and overall UNHEARD OF ( ... )

oh man story of all our lives, I think. I still have all the X tankoubon ANYONE WANT TO BUY THEM. X is retarded, universal truth. Clover's totally their artistic masterpiece, though--probably because it feels like one of the few times they've ever shown restraint, paid as much attention to composition and negative space as their ornate designs so that everything actually comes out bleak and spare and hauntingly perfect.

Anyway, they've built an EMPIRE on a foundation of SHAMELESS FANSERVICE (RE: BLATANT GAY), but the fact they are so shameless about it is actually sort of beautiful. *wipes a single tear*

Kino, because I never hear fandom opinions on it. (Actually ... I think you're the only one on my f-list who shares any kind of actual enthusiasm for it.)

To start off let me just say how psyched I am to have the Kino novels in translation, even if they suck I'd still read them (I have not yet bought one, but not for lack of searching ( ... )

I tried showing it to a bunch of people, and while a lot of them thought it was "okay" or "cute," I think they all basically wrote it off as trying too hard for pretension because of its quiet storytelling and loaded lines. And then they eat up the beginning of BSG season three, which screamed to me "WE ARE RELEVANT AND SHIT," and I get bitter. XD

Though everyone digs Colloseum, because yes, SHIZU IS HOT. And there's AKSHUN.

For now, I'm recovering from the shock of the existence of Kino fandom. I mean, I figured there were others, but it's like how people tell you dinosaurs existed once. Awesome but intangible! I am just talking now! Hurr!
